Yesterday's news has been the kick in the ass I needed to get going on the job search. I don't know why, but my resume looks really childish; would anyone be willing to look it over and make suggestions? Also, when applying for retail jobs at the mall, do I need a cover letter? I assume yes, but I'm not sure.

ANGST!

I know this sounds like the easy way out, but I took my CV to an youth employment help centre and they souped it up and made my jobs look so awesome.

If you have little job experience, it's a good idea. And then once you have more experience, you can change it a bit.

Plus, add any research and volunteering you've done. And make it less than two pages. Employers rarely read more than that.

And, when you go to drop them off, drop them off with the manager, not with employees. If the manager's not there, ask them when they'll be in next or ask for a phone number to confirm that they got it.

Yeah, the youth employment centre is a good help. Give them a call too. Volunteer = Good. Don't try and make it two pages, if it only fits on one, then fine. References can be put on a second page, if you need the space.

I meant that it should be under two pages, ie- two pages absolute maximum, unless it's a complete CV.

I totally agree with you - even if it doesn't seem that way. :) I'm not sure how much stuff she has on her resume, So i just meant to say that one page is okay, too. :)

No no, I get what you're saying.

Don't stretch it out unnecessarily I think is what you're getting at...

If you want, I can look over it. You don't neccesarily need a cover letter for the mall, but you can do up a 'generic' one, saying you're looking for this kind of work over the summer (and maybe mention -if you're going back to school in the fall - whether or not you want to work part time evenings/weekends in the fall) and how many hours per week you're interested in.

... but I babble.
