You don't neccesarily need a cover letter for the mall, but you can do up a 'generic' one, saying you're looking for this kind of work over the summer (and maybe mention -if you're going back to school in the fall - whether or not you want to work part time evenings/weekends in the fall) and how many hours per week you're interested in.
