After some serious debate this morning about whether or not I should actually go in to class, I realized that yes, I should, on the off chance discussing our paper outlines would be helpful or not (it was, surprisingly) I totally pwned the discussion after the presentation ended (finally) on cummings' "next to of course god america i"
presenter: so, he's written the poem in sonnet form, except for a few parts where he ignored it. i guess he just chose not to.
teacher: does anyone...
me: *hand shoots up in the air*
teacher: have an idea...
me: *waves hand more*
teacher: why he would do this, corie?
and then i totally pwned them FOR TOTALLY NOT MENTIONING IRONY, OMG, THE ENTIRE TIME. HOW CAN YOU TALK ABOUT cummings AND NOT MENTION IRONY?
*headdesk*
And no, cummings was not writing this poem to support the war. DID YOU EVEN READ IT?
I really should scan in my notes, because I wrote an awesome visual thing about how cummings results in Colbert1, eventually. Well, it was basically cummings ----------> Colbert, and that was awesome. I also have written in huge block letters IRONY!!! and MISSED THE POINT ENTIRELY. [ETA: It is entirely possible that this class is turning me into a bitchy, bitchy student. I don't care- I know it's a first year class, but I no longer have patience for this kind of stuff.)
Our presentation on Friday is looking better and better.
I was telling
hadespuppy about this earlier Olbermann's Special Comment about the Fox news attack on Clinton, and how it's obfuscating the change in policy on torture.
1. I started reading a very awesome WIP last night about Colbert and the Revised Patriot Act; I don't know what it is about Orwellian dystopian alternate (but scarily, not too alternate) universes, but I just love reading them. This one has Colbert, Black and Carrell figuring out clues to communicate with Jon Stewart: it is awesome.
