So, I made alist of things I was planning on knitting for people, looked at it and realized, no. It can't be done. Not only is is an incredible amount of knitting, but the cost alone of the yarn involved is just too much. So, I'm scaling it back to 10 main gifts, 2 of which are finished projects already.

I had been planning on a saxon braid scarf for one friend, but going over the cabling pattern, it'll be harder than the moebius shawl I'm doing for mom (well, the moebius isn't really that hard, but still.) So, no difficult cabling patterns with a 32 row pattern repeat. Something much easier.

Tomorrow I get back to work (both on looking for a job, and completing my project.)

Looking at the new SGA promo pics, I may change my journal's header. Because, dude: black t-shirts! leather! jeans!

Long pattern repeats aren't too bad, just print it out and mark your place with post-its. I know where you're coming from with the gift thing though. I think Robbie's the only one I'm going to do any real knitting for this year - he's little so things for him knit up fast, and surprisingly, he appreciates it more than most other (non-knitter) people I've made things for.

Good luck with the job hunt.

I'm lucky that most of the people I'm knitting for are crafters themselves, and have an idea of what goes into these things (or, in the case of my mom, knows how much time is spent on actually making it and after our trip last weekend, how much effort goes into choosing the materials themselves.)

I know I should be working on other things, but I'm really tempted to start the Frill now. No!

(also, I've talked mom and we think that a rectangular stole would look a lot better than a triangular shawl. *headdesk* So I'm not frogging it, but putting it on a holding string until I get far enough into the new one before deciding either way. When's this wedding again?)

Frill was fun to make - more fun dropped stitches.

That Cha Cha stole is going to kill you isn't it? Probably for the best to keep the triagular one on a lifeline. I know drop-stitch was not a rousing success with that yarn, but maybe seafoam stitch? Heck of a lot more yarn-overs, maybe they won't get lost in the fuzz. Whatever, if anyone can figure out something beautiful to make for your mom, it's you.

I'm really gladdened by your confidence in me. Thanks for the pattern link- I'll knit up a swatch, and see how it looks. Hmm. If I get my ass in gear, I may actually go down to the library and pic up some pattern books to check out some others (like that borders book).

Do you mean one of the Nicky Epstein books? They're amazing, you can't help but want to design something just to use a bunch of the different edgings and stuff.

I know, it's gorgeous. Rogue's been on my list of things to knit eventually for a while. I think it'll have to wait for now.

Shannon wants to make it as well, so we could probably buy the pattern, and we'll all get to it eventually.
