I need translation help. Well, not translations, but a general idea of what's being said in these article.
Danish: http://www.aiu.dk/show.php?id=159
German: http://www.cineplexx.at/arthouse/KW49_In_Produktion.asp
http://www.moviegod.de/henker/interviews_waldau.html (actually, if I could get a good translation of this, I'd be in someone's debt. Interview with Nik)
Interview: Nikolaj Coster Waldau
After the common interviews I could speak still with the leading actor Nikolaj Coster Waldau, without other journalists or actor were thereby.
MovieGod.de: Nikolaj, the first film, which you made, was Nightwatch - as you changed as an actor since then?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: One older and changes - I mean, how one looks. I think, one get experience therein, which one makes, because one knows, how one makes it. Nightwatch was my first correct job as an actor. I did not know actually, what I did - well, somehow knew I it already... however then had I opened to investigate for actors. I mean, I love it to make films - it is my passion. It becomes ever more complicated, as soon as one understands once the technology - which makes the light or which different camera lenses, whole technical things evenly. The knowledge makes it for me possible to be many more exact in my work.
MovieGod.de: You learned by practice?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: Yes, that is also the only possibility, as one can learn as actors.
MovieGod.de: The play school was thus only preparation and the remainder was experience at the set?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: The play school is correct, but one does not learn certain things simply. One gets a consciousness of one, but, I think, as an actor can learn one only by practice. Thus I see that.
MovieGod.de: You had also a role in Black Hawk down. To what extent do you see differences between Hollywood and Europe?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: Now, naturally once the budget. It is a large difference: One must build everything. One must manufacture everything. For a film like these one would need 70 days in Hollywood. But history would be held in black and white. In a Hollywood film there would be no figure as my: it is a Henker and it kills a good man. He was its friend, but nevertheless he must kill him. A typical Hollywood actor would not near-dare to this role. He would say, ` I cannot that not do, I can not for this figure once marriages '. That is the interesting, which lets us think hopefully about our own life. There are things in our life, which are not black or white, but grey. We do not want to do it, but have we. We will arise, we will have children - suddenly the life changes. Happens exactly with Martin: suddenly it has a family. It must nourish it and the only job, which it can do wars, is that of the Henkers. He must do it or its children became verhungern. That is natural a delicate point: As far one can act against its own principles.
MovieGod.de: That brings us, then I think, to which question back, which I asked to you at the table. In which way can history be translated into our time?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: First once Martin is a soldier - in Denmark we are sent into the war. We do not speak gladly about it. We have soldiers in the Iraq. I do not think that these men were ready to kill or to be killed. But it is their job - which circumstances have themselves changed.
MovieGod.de: And here Henker ties to our present?
Nikolaj Coster Waldau: Yes, I think already. It concerns lives and death, but in the smaller framework everyone already experienced. One asks oneself ` why makes I that?' and then you say ` because I a mortgage to pay have!' or ` I must pay school money!'. And then you catch about it to think on ` are that everything? That is everything, for which it in the life geht?`.
MovieGod.de: A good question and also a good end for the interview. Thank you! Oh, the translation hurts, but an interview with Nikolaj is a rare thing to find.

I could attempt a translation of the German as well, but that would take a while since I'd have to translate it twice (German to Danish, Danish to English), and I don't really have the time for that tonight. :(

I've been trying to pick up Danish for a while (I swear, not because of fangirly stuff. Rather, to try to read some family records[someone having been a stowaway from Denmark. My family is a little screwy this way.]) It's difficult because I'm really not sure if there's a strong Danish community in Winnipeg- we're so strong multiculturally, and yet I've never heard of one.
Also my cousin was stuck in Denmark for almost 5 months 2 years ago because of visa problems and she never picked up any Danish. I was quite surprised and disappointed.
