Raking leaves is fun. I don't understand people who use leaf blowers, even less than how I don't understand people who use electric/gas mowing machines. All that noise! Why? Why would you do that (she says while listening to her mp3 player while doing yard work.)
I think it's the same thing I love with my knitting- using the push reel mower and the rake not only is physical which I enjoy (even if I don't do it nearly enough...) but there's the repetitive movement to it that is almost meditative. In fact, it's the same thing I enjoy about cooking and baking. There's a rhythm, a process. You have to take your time anyway, so you take the time to actually think about what it is you're doing, immerse yourself in it, giving yourself a chance to stop worrying about everything else and just focus on the task at hand.
The other thing I wanted to say about raking up the leaves is: does anyone else feel guilty about putting ladybugs in the bag with all of the leaves? I'd take them out, but even my patience has limits.

I mean, they're just settling into their cozy, little leafy homes.
Sorry, that probably doesn't help.
