So, I know that a lot of people don't really like Jacob's recaps on TWoP, but I must admit that I love them. I think a lot of this has to do with how deeply (probably too deeply) he goes into the symbolism; I can't help it, ever since I took Archetypal Symbols with Granzberg, this is the type of narrative analysis I crave (sorry professor Malcolm... anthropology wins out over linguistics this round.)
But this from Father's Day is what sold me on the recap: We always said that it was easier to make the necessary break the bigger a dick your dad was. If he was evil, you could see him eventually as just a man. If he's a garden-variety asshole, all the better. Seems like it would get harder the nicer your dad is. But if he died? Oh, man. Because yes.
(Not really related to anthropology or linguistics, I know.) (Also, out of the 343 people so far, the episode has an average grade of A+. *sniff*)
