So, The Cavern looks like it'd be an awesome venue, just when it's not filled like it was tonight. That was to be expected, but man. I know that I'm claustrophobic and have issues with being closed in by strangers, but
coleman_genie and
_jibberish_ also thought it was a little much so we cut out after Novillero left the stage. I don't know if they played again later, but I kinda figured if I stayed much longer I'd have a panic attack.
Even with that though, I am so glad I went (and that
pyroclasticgrub threatened to beat me if I didn't) because a few months ago I was really, really craving seeing them again, and then they were only playing in Saskatchewan and augh. And now there are four (well, now three) shows in December. Although I'm not going to the show on the 17th (previously planned parties) or New Year's at The Cavern again (because it will probably be just as insane).
I've realized that this summer the Novillero CD was to me what the Franz Ferdinand CD was the summer before: something I lived with, and associate with very strong memories. This is what I took up to Thompson with me, and when people asked me about music I proclaimed my love for them at every possible moment. The iconic moment would be seeing them with
ananasananas,
coleman_genie and
_jibberish_ up in Gimli, and dancing my heart out (and accidentally stomping on Shannon's foot. Sorry again about that.) And the fireworks starting before they were supposed to take their break, and watching that and then the lightening coming up and this gorgeous scene in my mind of the guys playing brilliantly and the sky just being lit up so late at night and yeah. It was awesome.
But oh. I love them Novillero boys. They played two new songs, a cover I didn't recognize, a few songs off the album and the B-side of Abbey Road. While not familiar with the Beatles, I really liked it. And
coleman_genie assures me that it was, in fact, awesome.
I have to say, this wasn't my favourite show of theirs, but I don't think that has much to do with them, as with my trouble with the amount of people in the venue and the ability to dance like I used to when they played in the Toad itself this summer.
Afterwards
coleman_genie,
_jibberish_ and I went to TImmy's for talk, tea and Timbits. We are awesome. I love my girls.
:) In short, I had a very good time tonight (except for the near panic attack).
