I took my bike out for a quick ride around the block.

Things of the good: my ankle gave me no trouble with the different range of motions from what it normally goes through, the tires only need a wee bit of air this time, and I didn't fall over.

Things of the bad: it's still too cold to do much biking (or else I should go find my mittens), I think my bike it on it's last legs (wheels?), and the brakes are still really iffy.

Pondering getting a new bike then.

1. What's your favourite OE translation you've done so far and why?
I think my favourite so far has been The Battle of Maldon. This may be because I actually studied it in depth, but it has the elements of humanity (faith, honour and even cowardice) that are missing from plenty of the poems, and also some bitchin' battle scenes which I adore (oh King Arthur, LotR and Troy, how I enjoyr your battle scenes....)

2. Who's your favourite character in Canterbury Tales and why?
*embarassed* Other than the odd selection we had to read in grade twelve, I haven't actually read Canterbury Tales. I really enjoyed (or at least, remembered) the story of Chanticleer.

3. Do you prefer books that look loved or are you the type who won't even break the spine, no matter how many times you read a book?
I enjoy books that look loved, but I try to put off breaking them in as long as possible. However, once that's happened anything's game. I've never dropped them, but I have a tendency to bring books into the bath with me.

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Geeze. Normally I'd say Denmark right away, followed by England and Wales, but at the moment I'm having a love affair with the thought of going to India, specifically Goa. I blame Bourne.

5. Do you have a favourite memory that's triggered by a certain smell?
Favourite memory would probably be sitting on my dad's lap at a bonfire at my "godfather's" place out near Pine Falls (triggered by woodsmoke), followed by days at the beach at Sandy Hook with [livejournal.com profile] rosie_riviter when we were little (that sun&sweat smell, mixed with sunscreen that you get after a while) and finally a memory of being lost while snowshoeing at the Fort Whyte center when I was a girl guide (triggered by the sharp smell of snow. It has a smell, I swear.)

I realize that I'll probably be mocked, but oh. This makes me so damn happy (first LJ fandom, y'all):

From Joey Fatone's wedding:

First photo of them all together in I don't know how long.

Dude! How did I not know that Bob Hunter, the cofounder of Greenpeace, was from St. Boniface?

This really seems like something that I should have learned throughout elementary to high school.
