Oh man, you guys. I almost feel like the universe has let me down somehow, not showing me this video earlier. Maybe it's just the glut of watching so much curling the past few weeks, or my unending love for team Howard (imaginary boyfrens, all of them) but I hurt myself laughing so hard. Secret pregnancies! Enforced abstinence! Trolling for replacements in the bathroom!

I'm going to have to remember this link next time I'm talking with people who don't understand why anyone watches curling. Not that I would watch curling even if I had a television, but I sympathize.

See, I would contend that curling is one of the best spectator sports around. Never mind that it's a sport that most people can do physically (there's no way I'd be able to play hockey or figure skate any more but my 60+ year old uncle still curls every week), but it's also largely a mental game of knowing where to place rocks and how the ice reacts.

And as an added bonus, the players are miked so you can also hear what they're planning too. Of course, this doesn't work out so well for some of the players when they get fined for swearing (or "swearing", like when Brad Gushue said "godammit" earlier this week. He got the fine removed because, as he pointed out, they didn't actually have a list of what the players weren't allowed to say. Of course, now that there is a list I'm waiting for the first person to swear with something that isn't on the list and for all of this to flare up again.)

That was hilarious. Also, I agree, curling is one of the best sports to watch on TV. (Things on ice in general are for some reason.)

ANYWAY.
I'm trying to remember what that movie is called, the one with the 'big gay left turn'. Yes.

One of the things that always attracted me to figure skating was the fluidity of motion that you get from being on the ice. You get that a bit in hockey (but that has other elements going for it in terms of watchability) and in speed skating too. IDK, maybe that's it?

The movie is The Lion in Winter. I probably would have been less surprised if I'd seen it from the beginning the first time since I think someone alludes to it (or, you know, if I was more familiar with the historical period) but I remember it just kind of coming out of nowhere and being ridiculously pleased.

Okay, I just watched that movie, and it is pretty awesome. And holy shit, why have I never heard of it except from you? Like, EVERYONE is in it! Hopkins, O'Toole, Dalton, Hepburn.... Holy shit.

It's amaaaazing; excellent acting, sharp and snarky dialogue and a really good plot for being so self-contained.

They did a remake recently and I've caught bits of it- having seen this one, it makes me cringe.

HAH. The Howard's are funny. My mom actually used to curl with Russ in high school!
