I started a Hey Teach! yesterday (two days ago, maybe?) and I'm already about 1/4 of the way through. I'm using Rowan Linen Print, which is supposedly a bulky yarn, on size 9 circulars; the pattern calls for worsted on 8. I'm doing a size smaller than what I'd normally get but with the larger yarn and needles, it seems to be working okay. (Apparently I'm actually getting the right original gauge, but the sizing still looks pretty good, so. We'll see.) The yarn is discontinued, so here's hoping I have enough.

Also, okay. I know that listening to the KnitPicks podcast is pretty much just listening to a 1.2 hourlong adverstisement for the company, but today they were talking about new tools and yarns they will be offering, and I am pretty excited about a few things (not that I'll be able to order anytime soon, but still.) The thing that's got me most excited is their new ball-winder that has both a clamp for a table, and a handle if you like to hold it in your hands, like I do. The other nice thing about is that it's 20 bucks American. So, I'll wait until I hear some reviews on how it actually works, but this seems like a pretty nice investment.

The other thing is that they'll be carrying some organic cotton yarn. And yeah, there's the argument about how this isn't much better for the environment because they (and other organic product suppliers) have to ship this stuff and it almost negates any benefit... but that's not why I'm excited. It's a cotton yarn in dk and worsted available in four undyed colours. Without having seen the yarns, it sounds like it'd be pretty sweet for baby knits or a relaxed cotton pullover for the summer. (The other yarns I'm excited about are the dk and bulky version of Comfy, their cotton/acrylic yarn, and their heathered laceweight available in kettle dyed colours.)

Also: I've been watching a lot of curling. That's partly why my sleep schedule is so messed up right now, because the Scotties are taking place in Victoria, and games don't end until about 11:30Pm local time. And it's been kind of up and down, with both Manitoba teams losing a few today and yesterday.

Also also: Criminal Minds. Aaron. *sigh*

I'm going to order a few balls of the organic cotton. I like the natural color choices and I want to knit a cotton sweater so I can use it all year round.

Depending on the shades (and if she'll actually want it) I may do another Hey Teach for my mom in the cotton. She keeps picking up mine and going "oooh, this is nice!"

Maybe I'll just give her this one and do another.

I may have to get a ball of the dk Comfy to see how it feels and wears before getting enough for a cardigan or something- that sounds like another good option for summer/non-wool alternatives.
