Just finished reading Half Blood Prince. I have no coherent thoughts- it's still too near.

*sigh*
( Jul. 29th, 2005 04:56 pm)
I'm trying to slow down reading Half Blood Prince, but it just keeps drawing me back in. So good. Also, I picked up some more books at the library- the last two in the Immortals series, and books about Robin Hood, King Arthur, and Tristan and Iseult. These are all illustrated by the same man, and I may have to ask friends if I can use their scanners to upload these images, because they are brilliant.

I also made pancakes this morning for breakfast (mom was pleased), got copies of the housekey made (mom is thrilled, because we won't end up locked out again), and fixed the phone (mom will be ecstatic when she gets home).

Now back to transcription.

Halfway through Half Blood Prince.

...dude, this shit's good. Yaye.

My favourite pajama pants are so tattered and ripped right now, but they're so comfy and soft, I never want to take them off. Shall have to, before tonight. Mmmpf, kinda don't want to go out tonight. Would much rather stay in, read and sleep. Was up for far too long last night, chatting and picspamming. Plus I've gone Fringing every day this week so far. I realize that's only 3 days, but 5 plays and several hours wandering around the Exchange District.

Squee! I just got my copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in the mail.

...which is fast if they're telling the truth about it only being shipped out yesterday.

So. I shall finish making my zucchini bars, and then settle in with my book. Wait, dammit. I can't. Fuck. I have to finish transcribing at least one tape today. Fuck.
( Jul. 16th, 2005 09:38 pm)
Since I was already spoiled for the book, I have no problems reading spoilers now, and OMG, I'm going to try to get all of my transcribign done before Monday.

Um. There's a wedding I have to go to tomorrow. Damn. Tuesday then.

Mom and I have new cellphones. I still have the same number, so. Yeah. Not entirely sure how I feel about the whole thing.

I had a really crappy dinner at Montana's. I'm left craving steamed asparagus and glazed carrots, so I may make up some carrots later in the evening.

I'm tired of the mosquitos and heat now. Bring on winter, I say (unless it makes my ankle hurt. Then bring on spring again.)

I'd like to thank my friends for guilting me into going to the HBP release party last night (even if I did start to get a wee bit crabby by the end. Sorry about that.) Fun was had.

[livejournal.com profile] coleman_genie and I have decided to start up a stich and bitch group. For the next book release we shall have awesome house scarves (incidentally, does anyone know of a really good pattern for HP house scarves? Found it, never mind.). Ravenclaw pride!

Bought Stuart his copy of HBP as a grad present. I'm painfully waiting until I finish thee damn transcribing until I can read it. Aargh. The agony.

I have discovered a new favourite breakfast: cottage cheese and chopped up peach. Mmm.

I seriously just had three different charities call me in a row, asking for my mom. I'm all for charity and helping other people, but sometimes it just feels ridiculous. I mean really- we don't have that much money to begin with, and we already donate a good bit to some charities. So don't try to guilt us into donating more than we can- I'm really tempted to just tell them to fuck off and screw their dying children in Africa.

Uh, wow. That was much more angry than the "Grr! People keep phoning!" post I was going to make.

I really want to go out and see a movie. I need to get out of the house today- this being a shut-in thing is beyond ridiculous. But I hate going to see movies on Friday nights- Far too many people. And that's why I won't be going to any Harry Potter things tonight either- I just wouldn't be able to handle it. I'm getting freaked out just thinking about it (yet another thing I appear to have learned from my dad.)

I hate, hate, hate the fact that they've closed down the Cinema City at Pembina- the one at McPhillips isn't open yet, and I'm not going to be able to convince people to go all the way out to Northgate. Fucking hell, the one at Pembina was always super busy; why close it down before the "super cheap seats" was finished being built? (In a location that really isn't convenient to anyone at all?) For serious- the one at Pembina was close enough to a large student population, families with small children and regular folks (and being regular Winnipeggers they'd be cheap bastards waiting for movies to be at the cheap seats. Come on Winnipeggers, you know it's true.) The theatres at Pembina probably got business from the theatres at St.Vital (how many times have we gone to St.Vital, looked at the movies, thought "no way" and made our way to Pembina?)

It just makes no sense. And I really want to see a couple of movies at the cheap seats. So maybe I'll make my way out to the other side of the city to do that.

ETA: My cousin and I are going to see Fantastic Four at 37:40 today, at St. Vital. People are welcome to show up and join us.

Okay, now for the somewhat serious stuff. For my RL friends, I feel like I owe some of you a very big apology.warning: mental and emotional self-analysis, and some TMI )

Dammit, I just spoiled myself for Half Blood Prince.

I just can't keep away from spoiler links, can I? DAMMIT.

Cooking question: while I realize that I'm free to do whatever, in this recipe do you think it would be all right to substitue the ground ginger for allspice? Shockingly, we have no ginger.

Citrus Glazed Carrots )

Meh. I can't see allspice instead of ginger being the that big of a deal.

Also, I kind of want to make myself a Ravenclaw icon. Hmm. This is based both on the poll and the realization that no matter how much I want to be a Slytherin, I'm just too much of a Ravenclaw.

Feel like an ass for forgetting my weekly Vietnames dinner date with [livejournal.com profile] numensule. Will make it up later in week, promise. Tonight, mom and I dine on salmon, rice, asparagus and allspice flavoured glazed carrots, apparently.

Since I am a lemming,

I will get work done today. I swear it.
( May. 15th, 2005 11:23 pm)
I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and the twins have just taken off on their broomsticks, which is one of my highlights from the entire series.

OotP is my least favourite book of the series. Whenever I reread them all, I cringe when I get to this one because there's just so much dark material here and so much that could be avoided if the characters simply talked to one another.

Also, while recognizing that Rowling is trying to pack in a lot of information that we're going to need over the next two books, I wish this book wasn't so damn long. That, combined with the darkness makes it my least favourite- if it were upbeat and optimistic I wouldn't mind it being so damn long. As it is you have one bad thing after another.

And ALL CAPS TEENAGED ANGST HARRY just gets on my nerves so damned much. Arrgh.
